John Morrison Jazz Quintet - About John Morrison

John was born in Philadelphia, PA. He has been playing music since the age of nine and first picked up the guitar when he was thirteen. He attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA where he earned his undergraduate degree in Jazz Guitar Performance. At Duquesne he had the opportunity to study privately with a number of great artists and professors, including trumpeter, Sean Jones, legendary pittsburgh-based bebop guitarist, Joe Negri, and prolific big band arranger, Mike Tomaro. John went on to earn his MM at Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts in New Brunswick, NJ. There, he was a regular student of Vic Juris and also studied under Ralph Bowen, Conrad Herwig, Victor Lewis, Kenny Davis, and Fred Hersch.

John has extensive experience as a performer in the New Brunswick, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Central NJ and NY area. He's performed at many venues such as Chris's Jazz Cafe in Philadelphia. Somethin' Jazz Club in Manhattan. Little E's, James Street, Savoy in Pittsburgh. Old Bay, Destination Dogs, and Tumulty's in New Brunswick, NJ. The Stone Pony, The Cross & Orange, and Hotel Tides in Asbury Park, NJ. TT the Bear's Place in Boston,  to name a few. He primarily plays jazz but is comfortable in many styles (rock, funk, blues, top 40 pop, R&B, folk, punk. country, ska, acoustic, etc.) and has done much work as an accompanist beside singers and instrumentalists in different styles. He is also a versatile solo performer of jazz standards and other songs.
