The JSJBF Community Outreach Programs
In-House Educational Programs:
JSJBF's Jazz and Blues Youth Project. An understanding of jazz and blues is fostered through the process of playing, listening and arranging. The jam sessions have members constantly working on songs, specific techniques, and more importantly, working as an ensemble. The program cultivates teamwork, and the understanding of the genres musical history. The Youth Project Program is designed to further nurture the skills that young musicians already possess, with an emphasis on jazz and blues.
The Education Committee is achieving the Foundation's goals through our Community Outreach bringing educational programs to the community through presentations or performance at schools, community centers, and community events.
Through the JSJBF Jazz and Blues in the Schools, the music of Jazz and Blues are blended with the expertise of JSJBF musicians and/or educators who will present programs at schools related to these 2 genres of music and its history. This program transcends the confines of schools and reaches out into the community itself and makes use of its different facilities. Through lecture, live music, multi media presentation, and audience participation, these skilled professionals will share with students of all ages their wealth of knowledge in their field.
A Dose of Jazz and Blues, brings programs to patients of all ages in hospital sick wards and care centers using live music, and audience participation. Whether performed by a professional or one of our Youth Project members, patients will get a good dose of some great music.
The Swingin' Seniors Outreach brings performances, educational lectures, multi-media presentations and other programs related to Jazz and Blues music to seniors in senior villages, assisted living facilities, churches, and nursing care centers. We love to leave them happy and swingin'!
At the annual Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Festival, the Education Program presents 2 days of educational activities, workshops, and performances at the intergenerational BackBeat Stage. There is no limit to the creative learning experience.
